Postpartum Therapy: A Medication-Free, Surgery-Free Recovery Option

Moms are busy enough. The last thing they need to worry about is whether it’s safe to cough or sneeze. Traditional medical approaches to pelvic floor dysfunction include surgery, medication, or a shrug of the shoulders and the suggestion that you β€œlearn to live with it”.

We know there is another option out there. Pelvic floor therapy can strengthen the pelvic floor to better handle the stresses and strains of pregnancy and childbirth. This makes recovery easier and reduces the chances of incurring problems after the birth.

Our physical therapy services for new and expectant mothers:

  • Prepare the pelvic floor for labor and delivery

  • Manage low back, pelvic, and hip pain during pregnancy

  • Reduce the risk of post-birth incontinence

  • Incorporate muscle balance training and manual therapies

  • Help guide new moms back to physical activity postpartum

I have had only 3 sessions with Erica (which includes the initial consultation!) and I have had more relief from my chronic neck/back pain than I did with 5 months of PT through my insurance. I’ve suffered with this for 5 years and it has been so debilitating at times and affected my ability to play with my kids, work, and do the hobbies I used to love. Finally having pain relief after so long is amazing but being able to start to strengthen my back muscles again is the best part. I finally feel like myself and I can start to see athlete that I used to be come back! I can not recommend Erica enough! Her knowledge base is phenomenal and it shows in how quickly she addressed my problems and treated them!

Erica is amazing!!!!! Before I went to her, I was dealing with sciatic nerve pain running down my right leg to my foot. I was in pain 24/7 walking, standing, sleeping etc. I am a very active person so it was debilitating to me. After many visits with chiropractic care, physical therapies from different places, the neurospine doctor scheduled me for back surgery. He said that was the only solution. Fortunately my rheumatologist stopped me from having it although at the time I was bummed. I had been dealing with this pain for at least 2 years. Then one day at Orange Theory they said a husband/wife team was going to do a workshop about optimizing our running. After meeting with her she said I can (fix) you. I was skeptical but after a few visits the pain was settling. Erica showed me what was going on with my back. She was very patient, kind and very knowledgeable about my condition. I did the prescribed exercises and I am now pain free!!!! I can do everything active that I always want to do. BTW I am in my 60s and participate in orange theory 3x a week, running etc.

Erica has been amazing to work with from the initial consultation and in each of my follow up visits! I was struggling with lower back pain for a few years. I met with Erica and she created a personalized treatment plan specific to my concerns and issues. In the short time I have been working with Erica I am seeing great improvement in mobility and strength. Since strength training is something I really enjoy, Erica also is spending time with me doing strength and core exercises to ensure that I have proper form and I am targeting the correct muscles with each exercise and not putting unnecessary pressure on my lower back. I highly recommend Erica at MVMT! She is amazing!
